Save a Collective £520 Million a Year!

Date Posted: 21 Feb 2011

It has been estimated by The Energy Saving Trust that if every UK householder fitted a standard 270 mm of loft insulation wadding, a colossal £520 million could be saved each year.

There are several ways of increasing a property’s thermal retention including double glazing, and the use of draught excluders and heavy curtains over doors. Loft and wall insulation are perhaps the most obvious areas that need attention in the home, but ‘out of sight, out of mind’, they are all too often overlooked.

According to Insulation Installers London, reducing the levels of heat loss from a home can drastically reduce the cost of energy bills. One of the greatest heat loss culprits is indeed the roof, which can account for as much as a quarter of our heating expenses.

James Barker of Insulation Installers London advises that piling on the thermal insulation in the loft or attic can shave off the pounds. “To ensure that heat is retained rather than escaping, the more wadding the better,” he says. “Many people believe that loft insulation is a messy, time-consuming and costly job to do, but on the contrary, our experienced teams make light work of thermal insulation. And your initial outlay is soon recovered by way of lower fuel bills.”
